In Memoriam

As we welcome new gardeners, we also want to honor long-time gardener Jerry Ludke in plot K-1 who recently passed away on January 5th. Jerry was a Navy veteran and prodigious gardener here at the EACG since our inception in 2012. Until health issues prevented him from doing so, Jerry was always willing to pitch in at work parties, or man a booth at the Taylor Wish events at Sycamore Park. All we had to do was ask and Jerry was always willing to step up. Jerry was a perfect example of what we seek in a gardener here at the EACG, and will be sorely missed. His ashes are to be interred at Miramar National Cemetery on March 7th.

On February 2nd, 2026, it will have been five years since our beloved Master Gardener and diehard Chicago Cubs fan, Kevin Matz, passed away. Kevin was a member of the East Anaheim Community Garden from its very inception and epitomized what it meant to be a Community Gardener.

Kevin was always willing to contribute in any way he could to make the Garden a better place. We all shared in his pride when his tomatoes consistently won blue ribbons at the Orange County Fair. Kevin is still sorely missed. We all should strive to be the Gardeners that Kevin knew we could be!
